The Board of Education honored Howard Crouse at its June 11 meeting by naming a district building after the retiring superintendent. Board members unanimously approved renaming the District Education Center the Howard Crouse Education Center.

The building at 780 Shoreline Drive in Aurora opened in 1998 and houses the administrative offices and the district's preschool.

Board Secretary Jeannette Clark praised Crouse's leadership in the district over the past 26 years. "You are indeed a true leader. You have taken on the unbelievable task of shepherding our district through phenomenal and astronomical growth."

During Crouse's tenure, the district has grown from 5,000 to 29,000 students. Many credit him with having schools ready on time so every student had a seat during the district's rapid growth period.

Crouse is set to retire June 30.
