Science

Science

The mission of the Indian Prairie Science Department is to prepare all students to succeed in acquiring scientific knowledge and skills applicable to science and technology in an ever-changing society.

Vision

We envision a scientific learning environment where students:

  • understand the fundamental concepts, principles and interconnections of the life, physical and earth sciences;
  • will develop a life-long curiosity about science to become an informed, discerning member of society; and
  • access resources outside the classroom.

Beliefs

We believe:

  • science should be exciting, interesting, and promote curiosity through inquiry, problem-based learning or student-centered learning;
  • asking questions and seeking answers about the natural world are at the heart of scientific inquiry.

"Inquiry is an approach to learning that involves a process of exploring the natural or material world, and that leads to asking questions, making discoveries, and rigorously testing those discoveries in the search for new understandings."
