Brookdale Elementary parent Silvia Vega-Mitchell nominated Rust and described him as a student-centered creative educator who has innovative ways of teaching. “He knows every student in his class personally and structures his learning environment to meet each student for success in every aspect of their life,” Vega-Mitchell said.

Rust has been at Brookdale Elementary since 2016 and shared that he thoroughly enjoys teaching. “To be recognized is very humbling and very touching because I just love what I do,” Rust said.
