News From the Nest - April 6th
Reported by firstname.lastname@example.org on 4/13/20
Dear Graham Families,
As you know, school building closures have been extended through the end of April. Today, we are sharing with you the Graham School Remote Learning Schedule for Zoom. Zoom is the program D204 staff is using to connect with students. Our teachers have worked hard on their plans and activities to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our students, while still providing flexibility for parents during this new learning adventure. On Tuesday, April 7th we will continue our e-learning(remote learning) with our students utilizing scheduled times for each grade level and department. The schedule will help parents plan out their child’s day, but also help with the strain of the devices a family has available to use.
During the school week, we have set up a schedule for each grade level to have Zoom time with their teachers. All student assignments and work will be posted in google classroom at the beginning of each day 9:00AM. You can reasonably plan on your child having a Zoom meeting with a teacher 2 – 5 times per week depending upon grade level and needs or your child. This is a time for students and teachers to check in with each other, to read stories and do some classroom meetings or other small group activities. Teachers will individually communicate with parents and students’ expectations for when a Zoom conference/meeting will occur.
The Zoom video conferencing schedule our building we will follow is as follows:
9:30AM – Kindergarten
10:00AM – First Grade
10:30AM – Third Grade
11:00AM – Fifth Grade
11:30AM – Project Arrow
12:30PM – Fourth Grade
1:00PM – ELL
1:30PM – Interventionist
2:30PM – Second Grade
3:00PM – Reading Improvement
As was established previously, schoolwork and other informational items from your child’s teacher will be available each morning at 9:00AM M – F. All Staff, including K – 5 teachers, Reading Improvement, Special Education Project Arrow, ELL and Interventionist will communicate the days they will hold a Zoom meeting or conference with their students. Additionally, our PE, Art, and Music teachers have google classrooms up and running, available for students to access activities and learning during the week. Please note: K – 1 grade students will receive a work packet from the district with learning activities for the next 4 weeks. Our Kindergarten and First Grade teachers have planned lessons and activities for their students separate from that material. Please use the packets with your student, as you deem appropriate.
Below I’ve included expectations for teachers, students and parents developed by D204 as guidance for our Remote Learning Plan:
Be connected to students on a regular basis
Be compassionate about student situations
Provide timely feedback on student work
Be flexible with due dates, and demonstration of learning
Provide engaging and meaningful learning opportunities for all learners
Talk to your student about the work assigned and feedback from the teacher
Reserve a space for students to complete remote learning work
Set sensible time limits for technology use
Contact the teacher with questions or for assistance
Help students establish and follow regular daily routines
Review and complete your assigned work.
Ask your teacher clarifying questions when you need help or don’t understand
Be respectful to yourself, teachers and peers and use good digital citizenship practices
I hope that this information helps as we move into our remote learning structure. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at email@example.com.
Stay healthy and stay strong. We are a small, but mighty community at Graham School. We’ve always been able to do great things! We will get through this “new adventure” together.
