Deputy Superintendent Named
Reported by email@example.com on 4/30/20
Pending approval at the May 11, 2020 Board of Education meeting, Doug Eccarius will be appointed as the new Deputy Superintendent for District 204. For the past six years, Eccarius has served as the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
The Deputy Superintendent will oversee the curriculum and instruction and student services departments. This new role replaces the current Chief Academic Officer position, which oversees only the curriculum and instruction department. Incoming Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley said aligning the two departments allows for more efficiencies and creates a stronger connection between the two areas.
Dr. Talley said Eccarius was chosen because of his overall professional background and most specifically for his knowledge of the district. "Doug has the skill, will, and professional acumen to oversee the alignment of curriculum and instruction with student services and support my role. Having Doug in this position as we navigate an ongoing public health crisis will be important as we continue to support our students, staff, and community."
Prior to his current position in human resources, Eccarius was the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Community Consolidated School District 181 in Burr Ridge. At District 181, he also served as Principal of The Lane Elementary School in Hinsdale, Director of the district's summer school program, and Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Clarendon Hills Middle School. He began his career in education in 1997 as a seventh-grade math and geography teacher at District 204's Gregory Middle School.
Eccarius holds a bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State University, a master's degree in education, leadership and administration from North Central College, and a superintendent endorsement from Aurora University.
His new position begins July 1.
