Reported by on 5/11/20

Dear Graham Families,

I am sending a new link for the Graham School Video. Mrs. Stone made a few changes, so you may want to check those out. Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures for the #inthistogetherGraham video.

Lift your voice music event

The other day I received an email from one of our Graham parents. He is the father of 2 students at Graham and 1 student at Crone. He is also an orchestra teacher here in IPSD204. He, like most teachers and administrators, was distressed to hear we would not be able to return to school for the rest of the school year.
From that disappointment came this idea.

Click here to see a short, video introduction to the idea.
Lift Your Voice Event

Please check out the links above to join in this musical experience. It will be May 16 at 7 pm local time, all participants go outside their homes - front yard, backyard, balcony, open window - and perform a given melody for as long as they want.

The website includes sheet music for all instruments and voice along with simplified instrument parts for young players. We've included common elementary school instruments such as recorder, ukulele, guitar, and piano.

“As a resident in a Graham neighborhood, I am especially interested in having strong participation from Graham's families. The notion that this is a public music event that cannot be canceled has already become a ray of sunshine for a lot of people. I don't want our elementary school students to miss out!”

Residency and Registration

As of today, the district has heard from approximately 40% of our elementary parents who have completed the intent to return surveys. A reminder went out yesterday and another will go out Sunday. The reminders will only go out only to people who have not completed the survey. I want to encourage you to complete the survey as it will help the district and our school plan for the upcoming school year. Registration will be online this year and will begin June 8th. More information is coming soon.

Retrieval of Personal Items

As many of you are already aware of Parents will be able to pick up their child’s belongings that were left at school at an assigned date and time on May 20-22 and 26. Graham Staff members have cleaned out classrooms and placed the contents in a labeled bag that will be brought to a parent’s car at a predetermined time. Students and parents will not be allowed to enter the school or exit their vehicle for any reason. Families needing to retrieve medicine or medical supplies from the nurse’s office should work with building administration to coordinate a pick-up on their assigned day. Bins will be available for returning district textbooks, LMC books, Chromebooks in need of repair, and other district property. Working Chromebooks will not be collected from students who are returning next year. These should be brought to school on the first day of next year. Any students leaving the district should return their Chromebooks along with any other district property. More information with assigned pick-up times will be sent to parents next week.

End of the Year - Spirit Fun days

One of our Graham traditions is to have an end of the year countdown. This year we would like to do a five-day countdown and have students show their spirit during their class Zoom meetings. To help students stay focused, the spirit days will be on Fridays until the last two days of school.

Update on the Kane County Cougars Game Refund:

A big thank you to all the students that celebrated reading by independently reading at school and home and to all the families that ordered tickets to the Kane County Cougars Graham game. The district administration is aware that this event has been canceled, and we are working on refunding the money to all the parents and families that paid for tickets. Thank you for supporting reading and the Graham LMC programs. ~Mrs. Shiles

Have a wonderful weekend. Stay strong and stay healthy,

Ms. Walton
