Several District 204 schools will have new principals next year. At its May 11, 2020 meeting, the Board of Education approved Keeley Schmid as principal of Brookdale Elementary School.
For the past five years, Schmid has served as the student services coordinator at Brooks Elementary School. Responsibilities in her current role include coordinating special education and academically talented programs, overseeing mandated state testing and co-facilitating the school’s instructional leadership team. Prior to becoming a student services coordinator, Schmid taught third grade at Clow Elementary School and eighth grade at Scullen Middle School. Schmid earned her bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and her master’s degree from University of Illinois. She is currently pursuing her doctorate from the University of Illinois.
Schmid is taking the position held by Mary Howicz, who is moving to become principal at White Eagle Elementary, replacing Tim Krahenbuhl who passed away in April.
Another District 204 principal is moving to a new school. Cowlishaw Elementary principal Ken Bonomo will move to Owen Elementary, replacing Kim Earlenbaugh, who is retiring. The board previously approved hiring Carlos Azcotia, who will take Bonomo’s spot at Cowlishaw Elementary.
All positions begin July 1.
