Mindfulness Program

Reported by on 12/5/16

Once a week, students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades are offered the opportunity to sign up to attend a 15 minute Mindfulness session during their recess time. Mindfulness is an activity that helps us learn how to relax and be still inside. It starts by learning how to pay attention to our breathing in order to focus on the “here and now moment”, which allows us to stop worrying about something that happened in the past, or something that might happen in the future. Some other things that can be learned through Mindfulness are how to focus your attention, become aware of your feelings, feel in control of yourself in tough situations, know when you are getting upset so you can calm down, and decide how you want to handle tough situations in the future.
