Principal Message 2/12

Reported by on 2/12/17

Dear Brooks Families,
I hope you have enjoyed the sunshine this weekend.  Predictions for next weekend, seem nearly spring like!!  Fingers crossed!

Tuesday, February 14 - Each student will participate in a TEACHER sponsored Valentine Exchange.  This is a classroom activity scheduled at a time that best meets the teacher's schedule.  Parents are not a part of this exchange.  Below, please note the protocol for our Valentine Exchange:
1.  If your child chooses to participate, he/she should include a Valentine for EVERY classmate.  No child should be left out.
2.  Due to food allergies and health needs, we highly recommend a CARD ONLY.  However, we recognize that many Valentines now come with candy as part of the card (in other words, a lollipop or candy heart).  You may send those valentines with your child.  If you choose to attach something to your card, please consider a NON-EDIBLE treat such as a pencil, eraser or Valentine sticker/tattoo.
3.  NO peanut products, homemade goods or goodie bags are allowed.
4.  ALL Valentines will be collected in a collection box/bag and sent home.  NO CANDY will be eaten at school.
We recognize this protocol is different from last year and will re-evaluate it's success.  Everyone's cooperation in following health/safety rules will allow us to have a fun and safe Valentine Exchange.  If we determine this plan is not being followed, changes will occur for next year.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Attention Kindergarten and Grade 2 parents.
In the state of Illinois a vision exam is required for all students entering Kindergarten.  Written proof of having been examined by a licensed optometrist is needed.   If you have not turned in your child’s completed Illinois Eye Exam form, please do so as soon as possible as this was due in October of 2016.  The completed form can also be faxed to Brooks School at 630-375-3201.  If you have any questions, you may call the health office at 630-375-3209 and ask for Kathleen Smart, Brooks RN   Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Also, all Kindergarten and 2nd grade students are required to have proof of a dental examination per Illinois law.  This is due before May 15th, 2017.   If you need assistance or have questions regarding this requirement, please contact the health office at 630-375-3209.

Book Drive:  Do you have books you no longer need?  Do you have books you'd like to share with others?  We have an opportunity for you to donate your gently-used books to a great cause. A former student is doing a community service initiative. She is collecting for local organizations like The Wheaton People’s Resource Center and schools within the city of Chicago. Please help this cause to make a difference in the lives of people who don't have access to the books we are so privileged to have. You may drop off any books at the designated box starting Monday, February 13th through Friday, March 7th. Thank you in advance for your support!

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 2 from 1:00-8:00 p.m.  Spring Conferences are on an as needed basis.  Your child’s teacher will contact you if a conference is being requested.

KINDERGARTEN PRE-REGISTRATION:  If you have a child who will be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2017, he or she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2017-18 school year.  Please click on the link below to find the Kindergarten Pre Registration form.  We use this information to plan for kindergarten sections next year, therefore, it is crucial this form be returned to the Brooks Office no later than February 24, 2017.  Thank you in advance!

Help make a difference for our students.

There's still time for you to be part of the excitement. You have until February 18 to join Team IPEF and run on behalf of our school in the 5th Annual Naperville Half Marathon on Sunday, October 22, 2017. Since 2014, Team IPEF has raised more than $300,000 for District 204 schools and programs supported by the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation. Half of all money raised goes directly back to your child's school. The other portion goes toward supporting district-wide programs.

You can join more than 175 teammates who have already committed to make a difference.

PARCC:  During March and April, our students in grades 3-5 will be participating in PARCC testing. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district.
