Cowlishaw PTA Science Fair Registration is OPEN!!!
ALL Cowlishaw students are invited to participate in the Cowlishaw Elementary School PTA SCIENCE FAIR on Friday, April 21, 2017. Registration for the participants will be open on Monday, February 13 at: http://cowlishawelementary.oursciencefair.com/Register.aspx
We need volunteers for Science Fair night, especially "Science Experts" to interview our young scientists! (No need to be an actual "Science Expert" - we just need adult volunteers to speak with the students about their projects! Questions will be provided for the interviews!) Sign up to help us here:

INDIAN PRAIRIE SPECIAL NEEDS PTA
Our next speaker series is one not to miss. On February 16th, Matt Cohen, a very well respected and successful Special Needs Lawyer, will be talking to us about navigating IEP's and 504 plans. Please see the attached flier for more details!
Turn in your Box Tops between February 13-22, and the classroom submitting the most will receive a prize. Cowlishaw PTA will hold a contest to see which class can collect the most Box Tops for Education! This program supports many of the PTA-funded programs such as Accelerated Reader, Assemblies, and more! Don’t forget to put your Box Tops in a bag or envelope with your teacher’s name on it!

SIX FLAGS READING PROGRAM
Six Flags Reading Program logs are due to your child's teacher by February 17th, 2017. Tickets will be distributed in May. If you have any questions, please contact Tracy Hurley at firstname.lastname@example.org

LMC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The LMC needs volunteers to shelve and organize books and reading materials, assist students, repair books, and work on various projects. This is a great way to see your child in action and get a sneak peek at what they do at school. Volunteers needed on Thursday mornings and Fri-day afternoons. The District 204 VEX IQ Robotics Tournament will be held Saturday, February 25th at the Neuqua Valley Birkett Center (32220 Cedar Glade Rd, Naperville, IL 60564). There's still time for you to be part of the excitement. You have until February 18 to join Team IPEF and run on behalf of our school in the 5th Annual Naperville Half Marathon on Sunday, October 22, 2017. Since 2014, Team IPEF has raised more than $300,000 for District 204 schools and programs supported by the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation. Half of all money raised goes directly back to your child's school. The other portion goes toward supporting district-wide programs.
You can join more than 175 teammates who have already committed to make a difference.

READ AND WRITE
Starting this year school year, Indian Prairie School District #204 purchased Read and Write for Google as a Universal Design for Learning tool. All students K-12 (including students in the STEPS program) have access to this tool when they sign into Google Chrome with their IPSD Google login. Read and Write for Google is a powerful reading and writing support that many students can benefit from.
Some features include: listening to on-screen text aloud, speech recognition, word prediction, and highlighting study tools.
If you are interested in learning more, please consider attending an upcoming informational meeting.

The Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) invite you to a districtwide discussion focused on Chapter 5 of the Mindset book by Carol Dweck on Thursday, February, 23rd, 7:00-9:00 pm, at Crouse Education Center (CEC), 780 Shoreline Drive. It is not necessary to have read the chapter or book. The topic of the discussion is: Call to Collaboration with District Parent Organizations. The Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) in conjunction with the Metea Valley High School PDAC committee, invite you to attend a FREE screening of the film: Most Likely to Succeed. An acclaimed film offering an inspiring look at what students and teachers are doing in schools.
