Principal Update March 13, 2017

Reported by lisa_sadler@ipsd.org on 3/13/17

What talent we have at Brookdale. We hope everyone enjoyed the Talent Show Friday evening as much as the students enjoyed displaying their talent.

Here is an update from Brookdale:

FAMILY READING NIGHT - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15TH AT 6:30PM
We encourage all of our students and their families to join us on Wednesday, March 15th beginning at 6:30pm for our annual Family Reading Night. This evening will be a cumulation of our ONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL reading of The Tale of Despereaux. There will be guest readers, activities to participate in and prizes for students who attend.

PREPARING FOR PARCC ASSESSMENT
Our students in third, fourth and fifth grade are taking a practice test in the next week or so in order to become familiar with the structure of the test. For the week a student is taking the PARCC Assessment, we ask they bring in a pair of ear buds or headphones. We have some available for students who don't have their own at school but do not have enough for an entire grade level. We really appreciate your support.

READ AND WRITE GOOGLE TRAINING FOR PARENTS
This school year, Indian Prairie School District #204 purchased Read and Write for Google as a Universal Design for
Learning tool. All students K-12 (including students in the STEPS program) have access to this tool when they sign into Google Chrome with their IPSD Google login. Read and Write for Google is a powerful reading and writing support that many students can benefit from. Some features include: listening to on-screen text aloud, speech recognition, word prediction, and highlighting study tools. If you are interested in learning more, please consider attending an
informational meeting on March 22nd. See the attached flyer for information on times and how to register for this training.

SPECIAL SURVIVOR GAMES 2017
All elementary and middle school students with multi needs and supported services are invited to attend the District's Special Survivor Games 2017. The FREE event will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Peterson Elementary School in southwest Naperville. This fun event brings together volunteer peer buddies and District 204 elementary and middle school students with special needs to engage in relay style competitive races. See attached flier for details and learn more about the games by reading this article that was featured in last year's Naperville SUN and watch a video created by NCTV-17 from a couple of years ago.

Sign Up Now - Registration is Free! Simply send your child's name, home school, current grade level, special needs, and parent's name/email address/phone number toknkucharski@gmail.com. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

LOOKING FOR ALL FUTURE KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
We are accepting pre-registration forms for Kindergarten next year. Please let neighbors and friends who have not started at Brookdale yet know and pass this information on to them. We need to plan accordingly so we have the right amount of sections (and teachers) for our KDG classrooms.
