Principal Update April 2, 2017

Reported by lisa_sadler@ipsd.org on 4/2/17

We hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break. We are ready to welcome our students back tomorrow for our last quarter of the school year!

Here is an update from Brookdale:

REGISTRATION FOR 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR
IPSD 204 has initiated a new process for proofing residency this school year. They have contracted with a third party who was able to verify residency for our families without extra paper copies. You will soon receive a letter in your mail indicating if your residency was verified or not. If verified, families will only need to update contact information and provide fees to register your child for the 2017-18 school year. If you are not-verified through this process, the letter will indicate what information we will need to register your child for the 2017-18 school year. Once you receive the letter and you have questions, feel free to contact us for more information.

PREPARING FOR PARCC ASSESSMENT
Our students in fourth and fifth grade have successfully completed the PARCC ASSESSMENT before Spring Break. Our third grade students will be taking the assessment the week of April 10th. For the week a student is taking the PARCC Assessment, we ask they bring in a pair of ear buds or headphones. We have some available for students who don't have their own at school but do not have enough for an entire grade level. We really appreciate your support.

K-8 GROUNDS SCHEDULE OF PRE AND POST EMERGENT WEED CONTROL
Please be aware that on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, weather permitting, a weed control application will applied to the mulched areas including the courtyards, fenced areas (inside cooling tower, chiller and cell tower fences), fence lines (athletic fields) and bleacher pads at Brookdale Elementary. This application will be a “Pre-Emergent and Spot Treatment”. We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment. All are approved for school use, and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance.

BROOKDALE SPRING RUN CLUB
Every Wednesday and Friday (May 3 – May 26) from 8:20am to 9:00am Brookdale Elementary will sponsor a run club. Students will learn about the joy of running, log a mile or two, and burn some energy before heading to class.
To register for the Brookdale Spring Run Club, please register online at https://goo.gl/forms/V1VP8X8e60ZEXbON2.

PDAC MEETING SUMMARY FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 21ST
On Tuesday, March 21st, the Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) hosted a meeting titled: What Makes A Great Parent? Teacher? based on chapters 6 & 7 of Carol Dweck&rsquo—s book, Mindset. We enjoyed video clips and discussions on fostering growth mindsets. Meeting presentation can be found HERE and conversation starters with children HERE. For more information, please visit the PDAC subpage.

LOOKING FOR ALL FUTURE KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
We are accepting pre-registration forms for Kindergarten next year. Please let neighbors and friends who have not started at Brookdale yet know and pass this information on to them. We need to plan accordingly so we have the right amount of sections (and teachers) for our KDG classrooms.
