PTA News for Week of 4/3

Reported by stillptsa@gmail.com on 4/3/17

VOTE ON TUESDAY APRIL 4! The upcoming local elections are especially important to Still Middle School parents as this election will decide 4 of the members of the IPSD School Board for the next four years. Right now, the State of Illinois owes IPSD 204 $15 million and a property tax freeze is likely to pass in Springfield: both of these developments directly impact how our schools are funded. This means the budget cuts are very likely to come to our district in the very near future. Don't you want a say in electing the people who will decide where to cut and where to spend at our schools in the coming years? Take the time to learn a little about the candidates. Here is a link to the Candidate Forum which IPSD 204 held on March 7: http://204tv.org/ Here is a link to an article in the Daily Herald where the candidates were interviewed about class size: http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20170306/news/170309335/ Also, please see the Voter's Guide which includes a questionnaire filled out by each candidate.

TEAM 8-1 THANKS THE PTA: Team 8-1 received a PTA Teacher Grant and sent the following note & picture:

"Team 8-1 would like to thank you for your generous grant, with which we were able to purchase a wide variety of prizes and incentives to help recognize our students for going above and beyond. Through advisory we recognize those students who have done something great for others - Thanks for helping us to build strong students and community members who will continue to be giving as they move forward throughout their lives. You have enabled us to reach out to so many more students and thank them for the great things they do everyday!"

204 NEWS: FYI, Aramark will not be the District 204 food vendor next year. Instead, the district has gone for a lower bidder who specializes in locally grown, organic and tasty scratch-made food that still complies with federal guidelines: Organic Life. Here is an article from the Chicago Tribune about the new food service vendor if you are interested: http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/buffalo-grove/news/ct-bgc-distrct-21-lunch-tl-0204-20160201-story.html
