3rd Quarter Special Focuses

3rd Quarter Music Focus
Congratulations to the Builta Chorus on their performance January 25th in the Builta Gym. Their musicianship, respect and presentation was outstanding! The Builta Chorus is looking forward to singing The National Anthem at a Kane County Cougar Game on April 17th and participating in the Fine Arts Festival on May 20th at Neuqua Valley High School.
Kindergarten:
• Reading, composing and performing quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes
• Reading and singing high notes and low notes (Sol and mi)
• Action / Movement Songs and Dances
• Solo Singing / Beat Blocks
First Grade:
• Reading, composing and performing quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, half notes and half rests
• Reading and singing sol, mi and la
• Listening and moving to the orchestral piece of music “The Carnival of Animals” by Camille Saint-Saens
• Solo Singing / Beat Blocks
• Singing and moving to folk songs and folk dances from America and countries around the world
Second Grade:
Congratulations to our second graders on a wonderful program March 22nd entitled “Growing in Music.” The second graders presented the many things they have learned in Music Class this year. Some of the highlights were:

• Solo / Chorus singing of an African American Spiritual
• They composed lyrics for a piece of music
• Showing the form of a song by dancing with scarves
• Patriotic Music with sign language
• Singing with sol-fege signs
• Playing ostinatos on the xylophones

Third Grade:
• Learned about African American Spirituals
• Performed songs with Call and Response Form
• Performed songs with Solo / Chorus form
• Discovered and studied the four instrument families: String, Woodwind, Percussion and Brass

Fourth Grade:

• Learned about George Gershwin and his “Rhapsody in Blue”
• Started playing the recorders
• Practiced and learned how to properly sit and use our air to play the recorder
• Reading and playing recorder music using the notes A, B, D, E and G
• Proper tonguing to play the correct rhythms of the music

Fifth Grade:

• Learned about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
• Listened, composed and analyzed the form of Theme and Variations
• Started a unit on Music in the Media, focusing on jingles, theme songs and background music


3rd Quarter PE Focus

KINDERGARTEN
• Continued basic fitness concepts (flexibility, upper body strength, core strength, cardiovascular endurance)
• Tagging, fleeing, dodging, darting
• Team play, cooperation, teamwork
• Introduction to basic volleyball skills
• Introduction to basic jump rope skills

FIRST GRADE:

THIRD GRADE:

FOURTH GRADE:

FIFTH GRADE:
