Principal Message 4/30

Reported by on 4/30/17

Dear Brooks Families,

I knew our string of good weather weekends was going to end - I hope the cold and rainy weekend was still a good one  for you!  This week, we will recognize Teacher Appreciation Week.  I want to take this opportunity to publically thank each and every staff member at Brooks.  I am beyond  lucky to be the “coach” of this incredible team of teachers, teaching assistants and  support staff.  They arrive at work each day with passion for our students, dedication to their needs and a great teaching skill.  In advance, I send a special THANK YOU to our PTA, parent volunteers and our students for making this a special week.

A huge SHOUT OUT goes to Natalie Jordan and all the parent volunteers who provided a wonderful Cool Cat Cafe for our students!  These efforts go beyond organizing the Cafe, rather it’s a year long endeavor of working with our students to publish their writing.  THANK YOU to everyone involved for providing this meaningful opportunity for our students!

Registration for 2017-2018
Last week, students in grades K-4 received 2017-2018 registration packets in backpacks.  Incoming Kindergarten students received their packet in the US mail.  All registration packets are due back on Monday, May 8.  Student registration drives the number of classrooms we have for each grade level.  Therefore, it is critical for registration to be completed in a timely manner.  If you know you will be moving, we kindly ask you to call the school office at 630-375-3200.  Current 5th grade students will complete their registration through Granger.  Granger registration information may be found on their website at

Reminder:  Optional Parent Class Placement Input forms are due no later than May 2.  This is your opportunity to provide feedback on the learning environment that best meets your child’s needs.  Please do not contact your child’s current teacher with a teacher request for next year.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Attention 4th and 5th Grade Families:
Fourth- and fifth-grade students thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful assembly with Adrienne Kress, author of The Explorers: The Door in the Alley.  She shared with us her writing process, how she got her ideas for the book, and read part of the book to us.  We still have limited autographed copies of her book available through Wednesday of next week.  If you are interested in purchasing a book, please complete the attached order form and send it to school with cash or check made out to Brooks Elementary.  Orders will be placed in the order they are received in the LMC until books are no longer available.
Thank you to Anderson's Bookshop for providing this wonderful author!

Safety First
If your child participates in a before school activity, please treat this drop off as you would the typical 8:50-9:05 drop off.  Please use the front circle drive to form a single file line.  Drop your child off along the curb side and proceed out of the parking lot.  Parking in the diagonal slots to drop off your child, requires him/her to walk in between cars to reach the sidewalk.  This is presenting a safety issue and we don’t want a child to be hit.  Thank you for adhering to this important safety reminder.

Grade K and 2 Dental Exam
Illinois Dental exams for current students in grades K and 2 are due May 15.  Please return these forms ASAP.  If you have questions, you can call the health office at 630-375-3200.

Summer Reading Opportunity
I am proud to announce that we are bringing the Aurora Public Library Bookmobile back to Brooks School for summer book check out.  I am currently working  with the Aurora Public Library to finalize our dates/times.  Right now, mark your calendars for Tuesday afternoons, starting the week of June 5.  The Bookmobile will park right in the Brooks parking lot and allow our students to check out books.  Our families with a Naperville address will be able to use their Naperville library card for reciprocal check out.  Please stay tuned for further and specific information!!
