Important August Updates
Reported by firstname.lastname@example.org on 8/8/17
Dear Brooks Families,
Welcome Back! We are eagerly anticipating the start of an exciting school year. Our staff has been diligently preparing for the upcoming school year. By working together, we will have a year full of learning and excitement. Included in this correspondence, you will find the following items of interest:
Class Placement – Parents will be able to access classroom assignments starting August 16, after 4:00 on Home Access. To learn your child's classroom, you will need the Home Access Log In and password that you set up. You can then access the information at https://homeaccess.ipsd.org/HomeAccess. If you do not have your Log In, please call the school's main office for assistance BEFORE August. 16 If you are transferring from a District 204 school, your child’s Home Access Log In and ID number remains the same. If you are the parent of a kindergartner or new student, please refer to the Home Access “sign up” instructions attached.
Your child’s Home Access Log In and student ID number is crucial information. Once your Home Access Account has been set up, visit the Additional Student Information Link to find your child’s ID #. You need this information for class placement, demographic updates, bus routes, hot lunch, report cards, etc. PLEASE keep your child’s Home Access Log In and Student ID number in a safe location.
Important First Day Information:
Thursday, August 24 first day of school for students in grades 1-5
Kindergarten visitation – see information below
** Important: Kindergarten students will not ride the bus to school on Thursday, August 24. Instead, we invite you to bring your child to kindergarten on the first day for a one hour orientation. This visit will familiarize your child with his/her new classroom, let him/her meet the teacher and will prepare all of our students for their first full day of kindergarten on Friday, August 25. Please plan your visit according to your last name and the schedule listed below.
Bus Routes – On August 16, you may access your child’s stop information on Home Access. A few copies of bus routes will also be available at Teacher Meet and Greet. Please note: Route change requests will only be considered if received in writing by the Department of Support Services. “Request to Add or Change a Bus Stop” form can be found on the district web-site at www.ipsd.org. It must be returned to the Brooks Office, will be reviewed, then forwarded to the Department of Support Services for approval/denial. After school begins, route changes will not be made until after the third week of school unless there is a safety concern.
PD Wednesdays: School will start at 9:15 with doors opening for student arrival at 9:00. AM bus routes will remain the same, with pick up approximately 10 minutes later (see district site for Wednesday pick up times). Dismissal time remains the same and buses run their regular routes.
Communication between home and school is critical. All office correspondence will occur through e-mail, phone calls and the school web-site. In order to receive school e-mails and phone calls, it’s crucial for you to update your Home Access account with current information— phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
District 204’s hot lunch vendor is Organiclife. If your child had a balance from last year’s account, it will automatically role over to their current lunch account. You may check your child’s balance or create a new account by visiting www.pushcoin.com .
Free lunch and fee waiver applications may be found on-line at www.ipsd.org.
We welcome all our new families and kindergarten families to our first ever “New Student Welcome” on Tuesday, August 15 from 3:00-4:00. You will receive basic information about school start up and will be able to tour the building in a smaller setting.
Please join us for a Teacher Meet and Greet on Monday, August 21 from 2:00-3:00. Teachers will be available to meet their new students and parents in classrooms beginning at 2:00. This is the only opportunity for teachers to be available to meet their students prior to the start of school. Please keep in mind, this is a fun event for the children. It is not to be used as a time to conference with teachers. Thank you for your understanding, as we want to provide an opportunity for ALL students to meet their teachers.
Following Meet and Greet, please join us at 3:00 for the PTA sponsored Back to School Party. Weather permitting, we will meet on the blacktop behind the building. In the event of rain, we will meet in the multi-purpose room. Meet your friends, neighbors and classmates and enjoy a tasty, cool treat, compliments of PTA!
Reminder: We need all registration materials returned before the first day of school.
