Brooks School Start Up/Principal's Message 8/13

Reported by on 8/13/17

Dear Brooks Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year.  I hope your summer months brought time for family, friends and opportunities to do the things you enjoy the most.  Summer allowed for a short amount of rejuvenation time for the office staff, but we’re right back to it!!  Preparation for the upcoming school year has occurred all summer and is at a fast and furious pace right now!  We thank you for assisting the office staff by returning registration, medical paperwork and proofs of residency, all of which facilitate a smooth start to the school year.
Each Sunday throughout the year, you will receive a Principal Message.  The intent  of this email is to provide you with school wide information, reminders and calendar dates.  If you delete the email, you can find the same information linked to our Brooks homepage at

Class Placement – Parents will be able to access classroom assignments starting August 16, after 4:00 on Home Access. To learn your child's classroom, you will need the Home Access Log In and password that you set up. You can then access the information at  If you do not have your Log In, please call the school's main office for assistance BEFORE August. 16
First Day Information:
Thursday, August 24               first day of school for students in grades 1-5
Kindergarten visitation – see information below
On the first day of school, students will meet their teachers on the blacktop in the back of the school (weather permitting).  For the first 6 days of school, staff members and parent volunteers will assist us in getting all students to the right location.  If you would like to volunteer to help, please click the link below as we are still in need of volunteers!
** Important:  Kindergarten students will not ride the bus to school on Thursday, August 24.  Instead, we invite you to bring your child to kindergarten on the first day for a one hour orientation.  This visit will familiarize your child with his/her new classroom, let him/her meet the teacher and will prepare all of our students for their first full day of kindergarten on Friday, August 25.  Please plan your visit according to your last name and the schedule listed below.
10:00-11:00     A-L
1:30-2:30        M-Z
Bus Routes – On August 16, you may access your child’s stop information on Home Access.  A few copies of bus routes will also be available at Teacher Meet and Greet. Please note:  Route change requests will only be considered if received in writing by the Department of Support Services.  “Request to Add or Change a Bus Stop” form can be found on the district web-site at []  It must be returned to the Brooks Office, will be reviewed, then forwarded to the Department of Support Services for approval/denial.  After school begins, route changes will not be made until after the third week of school unless there is a safety concern.
New Family Welcome:  We welcome all our new families and kindergarten families to our first ever “New Student Welcome” on Tuesday, August 15 from 3:00-4:00.  You will receive basic information about school start up and will be able to tour the building in a smaller setting.
Teacher Meet and Greet:  Please join us for a Teacher Meet and Greet on Monday, August 21 from 2:00-3:00.  Teachers will be available to meet their new students and parents in classrooms beginning at 2:00.  This is the only opportunity for teachers to be available to meet their students prior to the start of school.  Please keep in mind, this is a fun event for the children.  It is not to be used as a time to conference with teachers.  Thank you for your understanding, as we want to provide an opportunity for ALL students to meet their teachers.
Medical Compliance:  All health forms including student physicals and proof of immunizations are required BEFORE the first day of school.
Curriculum Night - SAVE THE DATE:  Curriculum Night will be held on Wednesday, September 13 from 6:30-8:00 PM.  The format of this evening is for parents and students should  not attend.  Reserve your babysitter now!!
