FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL INFORMATION

Reported by julia_alsirt@ipsd.org on 8/16/17

The first day of school is Thursday, August 24. This will be a full day 8am – 3pm.

It is critical for all families to know that if you HAVE NOT completed registration (online verification, residency, or paper registration) your student will not have a schedule on the 1st day of school. These students WILL NOT be permitted to attend classes or stay at school until the paperwork is completed.

In addition. . . ALL 6th GRADE STUDENTS... are required to have a medical examination by the 1st day of school. You must have a medical form submitted to the nurse before the 1st day of school or by contacting the school nurse in regard to the date of your medical appointment.

Where do students go on the 1st day when they arrive at Granger?

6th graders will go to the large gym. Here they will receive their schedules (if they haven’t already done so) and be seated in the bleachers to await introduction of their teachers, and then be escorted by their 1st period teacher with their classmates to their 1st period class.

7th graders will go to the cafeteria. Here they will receive their schedule (if they haven’t already done so), then proceed to the large gym for a brief message from administration.

8th graders will go to the small gym. Here they will receive their schedule (if they haven’t already done so), then proceed to the large gym for a brief message from administration.

Everything about the 1st day is geared to provide all students the directions that they need to succeed. Upon the student’s arrival, faculty will direct them to grade level areas and, from that point on, the day will be all about getting familiar with the flow of the school day. Students will want to travel light on the 1st day and should only bring a notebook, a pencil and a lunch or lunch money.
