Multicultural Display Help Needed!

Reported by Kim_Stephens@ipsd.org on 8/29/17

Eid al Fitr, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Diwali, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, Thanksgiving, Las Posadas, Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day, Holi, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Ramadan… What do all of these holidays have in common? These are holidays that were represented in the display cases in the Builta Elementary School foyer last year.

As part of Builta’s effort to celebrate the rich cultural diversity within our school, we are decorating our foyer’s display cases with the various holidays that our students celebrate at the time of the holiday’s usual observance. Our goal is to have the celebrations be reflective of our student body. This project is one step in developing our cultural competency in helping students and staff be aware of relevant information about students’ backgrounds and cultural traditions. We can all learn about and appreciate differences in our celebrations and also enjoy common themes that run throughout various cultures.

Please contact Builta principal Kim Stephens via email at Kim_Stephens@ipsd.org if you would like to be involved in creating an informative display about a holiday that your family celebrates. We are not limited to the holidays listed above, but displays will only be made if parents volunteer! Parents who assisted last year are invited to participate again in addition to new parents!
