Team IPEF… Thanks to Arnab Bose for representing Welch Elementary in the Naperville Half Marathon on Sunday, October 22. He will be running with Team IPEF as a charity partner on behalf of our school. In addition to running, he is also fundraising a minimum of $204 for 204. Half of all money he raises will come back to Welch while the rest goes to support district wide initiatives sponsored by the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation. That includes programs like STEM Family nights, teacher grants and the Annual Fine Arts Festival. It's a win-win as all funds help enrich education here in District 204. You can make a donation toward his efforts at

Additionally, we have 11 students representing Welch Elementary in the Naperville Kids Marathon! Every student that runs has made a $26 donation ($1 per mile) that will be split, half to IPEF for district wide initiaitves, and half directly back to Welch! We are so proud of the White Tigers listed below who are representing Welch!

Naperville Police Department Substance Abuse Prevention Posters… In April 2017, substance abuse prevention posters were created by our students and submitted to the Naperville Police Department to be displayed during Red Ribbon Week and Crime Prevention Month. Please join me in recognizing Allison Oh, whose poster was selected to be displayed at the Fry Family YMCA during the month of October! We are so proud of you, Allison!

AM Arrival… Thank you getting students to school on time each morning, and on the occasion when students are running late or have an appointment that requires them to arrive to school after the start time, we appreciate parents signing them in at the Main Office. Please know that staff leave their assigned posts (front/back door walkers and car line) at 9:05 AM Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays and 9:15 AM on Wednesdays to get to their classes. If your student is arriving at or after the bell, we ask that you pull around to the circle drive and come into the front office to sign your student in. Staff are unable to bring students in with them after the bell. Thank you!

LMC Makerspace… The LMC is asking for donations for the Makerspace consumables. If you would like to donate any of the following items, please send in one item with your student: duct tape, painter's tape, transparent tape, wood craft sticks, drinking straws, string, yarn, play dough, aluminum foil, conductive fabric/thread, paper plates/cups, and/or altoids tins.

Vision and Hearing Screening…Starting in October, Welch Elementary will be conducting vision and hearing screenings. These screening tests are mandated by the Illinois Department of Public Health at specific times during a child's educational experience. If your child wears glasses, please make sure that they have them in school. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo the vision screening if there is a completed signed report on file indicating that an exam has been administered in the previous twelve months by a certified optometrist or ophthalmologist. All students in KN through 3rd grades will have hearing screened and all second graders will have vision screened. If you have questions, please contact Jen Kolb.

LMC Author Visit… Chicago author Lindsay Currie will present to 4th and 5th graders on Friday, October 13 (a perfect day for a scary book!). Students who order a book in advance will receive an autographed copy. Orders are due Wednesday, September 27 by returning the attached form: Checks should be made out to Welch Elementary. Information about Lindsay Currie can be found at——
