Coin Collection for Frazier Elementary in Houston, TX

Reported by on 10/11/17

During the month of September, hurricanes destroyed several towns along the coastal areas. By the coordination of our fabulous LMC Director, Ms. Rhonda Jenkins, Kendall Elementary students joined in the efforts to help out a school that had been affected by the storms. For a week, students participated in the Coin Collection for Frazier Elementary in Houston, TX…and it was a great success! Our students dressed up throughout the week and donated pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars, and even some checks! When it was all over, our Kendall community donated $2757.59 to this worthy cause.
Their school’s secretary said, “This is just one of the most sweetest gestures that I think I have ever seen. I wish that I could just come up and hug all of you. Thank you so much! It really does bring tears to my eyes.” Their principal said, “Hello! WOW!!! What a wonderful gesture from your school community! We have been blessed with so much support around the country. It has been amazing. God bless you all.”
We can rest assured we will put many smiles on the faces of those readers at Frazier! Likewise our students had fun picking out 1,827 books for them! I have to tell you that even the Scholastic reps were amazed at the amount we collected, they had never heard of so much being donated! Now, Scholastic is also able to send $2759.59 to other students in need! We thank you Ms. Jenkins for being a leader in this initiative and thank you to all of our families for all of your support. You are amazing!
