Principal Message 11/5/17
Reported by firstname.lastname@example.org on 11/5/17
Dear Brooks Families,
It is hard to believe the first quarter has come to a close and the calendar has turned to November. This week and next, we move into an important time of the year— parent teacher conferences. Please join us at your assigned time, so we can partner with you on behalf of your child. If you did not sign up for conferences prior to the closing of Power PTC, you will be contacted directly by your child’s teacher.
Student Council Sponsored Spirit Week in Honor of the Veterans of the United States of America
Americans have remembered those who served our country in uniform on November 11 – first as Armistice Day, and then, since 1954 as Veterans Day. We would like the Brooks Community to honor all veterans by showing their spirit this week.
Wednesday: Wear Purple for Purple Heart Day:
The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving.
Thursday: Wear Red, White and Blue Day:
Red, white and blue are the colors of the U.S. flag and represent patriotism, and ribbons of those colors can be worn to commemorate Veterans Day.
Friday: Wear yellow for Support the Troops Day:
Yellow ribbons or clothing are the color of Support our Troops, which originated in Canada and is also utilized in the United States. This color brings to remembrance troops who are prisoners of war (POW), missing in action (MIA) or who are far away from home.
Student Council Brooks T-Shirt Design Contest: “What Brooks Means to Me” You are invited to take part in our Brooks T-Shirt design contest! Design a Brooks t-shirt that reflects your ideas about what Brooks School means to you. The selected design will be put on t-shirts that will be sold as a fundraiser for Brooks Student Council.
*Shirt designs can include both words and pictures and should have no more than 3 colors.
Please create your design on the t-shirt design sheet sent home and return it to your classroom teacher by Tuesday, Nov 14th. Thank You From Brooks Student Council
Picture Re-take Day - Picture retakes will occur on Wednesday, November 15. If you wish to have your child’s picture retaken, the original pictures should be returned on or before November 15. Thank you.
Pizza Hut Book It Program
Brooks school is once again participating in the Pizza Hut Book It Program. Each month, from October to March, your child can record how many days they meet their grade level minute goal. Please have your child color in the calendar for those days they read their goal minutes. When they have met their total goal, they can return their completed calendar to the LMC. All student who return a signed form will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Please make sure your child’s first and last name and class are written neatly on the paper along with an adult’s signature.
November Reading Logs are due by Friday, December 1st.
On the Radar/Reminders:
Message from the Nurse - Illinois Vision Exams are due by November 15, 2017. This is a requirement of the State of Illinois for Kindergarten and New Students to Brooks. If you need a form, it may be downloaded from eSchool Home Access.
Recess Reminder - As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. In staying with district procedure, students will go outside if the temperature/wind chill is above 5 degrees. Additionally, playground conditions are taken into account. All research supports the benefit of daily exercise and fresh air, so we want our students prepared for their short outdoor exercise break!
Transportation Changes: Each day, we dismiss nearly 800 children. In order to make sure your child is in the correct location, we ask for your help. If your child’s dismissal plan changes, please write a note to your child’s teacher. This information gets shared with the office. In addition, if your child rides a daycare van, you must contact the daycare as well. Daycare vans are often delayed as they wait for students who they think they should picked up. Thank you in advance.
Pop Tab Collection - Brooks School is now collecting pop tabs which will be donated to Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs are recycled, resulting in a monetary donation back to Ronald McDonald House. This incredible organization provides housing for children and families going through medical challenges. If you would like to save and donate your pop tabs, they may be dropped off in the school office. Thank you!
Labeling Envelopes: When sending in money for various programs or events, PLEASE clearly label with your child’s first and last name, classroom teacher, and program (ex. lunch money, field trip, PTA, etc)
