Principal Message 11/19/17

Reported by on 11/19/17

Dear Brooks Families,

As we move into the week of Thanksgiving, we are reminded of all we have to be thankful for. At Brooks, we are grateful for a district that provides us with the facilities, resources and supports for our students. We are grateful for the skill and dedication of the staff who teach our children each day. We thank our parents and guardians who entrust us with their finest each and every day. And most importantly, we give thanks for our students who arrive happy and ready to learn each day! Please keep in mind we have no school Nov. 22-24 in recognition of Thanksgiving Break.

Speaking of Thank You - a SHOUT OUT goes to Mrs. Samantha Leibold and the PTA for providing a wonderful staff dinner during the long conference day. The food was delicious and enjoying each other’s company during a common dinner time was much appreciated!

Gift Mart - Community Service Opportunity
This year our school will once again be partnering with Gift Mart Wheatland Community in holding a toy drive to benefit under resourced children in Indian Prairie School District 204! These families come from households in financial stress whom may not otherwise be able to afford gifts for the holidays.
Gift Mart is a program that provides families who qualify with a “hand up” during the holiday season. By invitation parents and guardians are invited to a toyshop where they can purchase new toys for only $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each invited school to fund much needed resources.
Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 6-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. There will be a Gift Mart toy box located inside of the school from November 14th – December 8th.
Thank you for your generosity and participation! To learn more about Gift Mart please visit

Watch Dogs Reminders
We thank all our Dads who have attended or will be attending Watch Dogs. During your lunch and recess, we want you to have fun and enjoy every moment with your child. At the same time, we respectfully request you follow the same lunch/recess rules that we expect of our students. We want recess to safe and enjoyable! Therefore, please...
No rough play that involves tackling (light touch football only)
Hands and feet to self
Use the playground equipment as it was designed
No sharing of food (many of our students have food allergies)
Cell phones should be silenced and put away. Taking pictures of other children and posting on social media is strictly prohibited for privacy reasons.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

On the Radar/Reminders:

Toys and Fidget Spinners
We can use your help! Each day, we have students arriving at school with a backpack full of toys that disrupt the learning process. These toys can include items such as dolls, light up gadgets, trading cards, fidget spinners, etc. Please check your child’s backpack and keep all toys at home. Any student who has a specialized plan necessitating “fidgets”, has those provided by the school. Additional items from home are not necessary. If you have a question about your child’s specific plan, you may contact your child’s teacher. We thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

Recess Reminder - As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. In staying with district procedure, students will go outside if the temperature/wind chill is above 5 degrees. Additionally, playground conditions are taken into account. All research supports the benefit of daily exercise and fresh air, so we want our students prepared for their short outdoor exercise break!

Pop Tab Collection - Brooks School is now collecting pop tabs which will be donated to Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs are recycled, resulting in a monetary donation back to Ronald McDonald House. This incredible organization provides housing for children and families going through medical challenges. If you would like to save and donate your pop tabs, they may be dropped off in the school office. Thank you!
