Kindergarten 1819… If you have a child who will be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2018, he or she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year. Please see link below for important information about enrollment.
Spring Conferences…Parent/Teacher conferences will occur on Thursday, March 1. The district will continue to use PowerPTC for conference scheduling. Parents should have received an email on last night with directions for setting up their accounts. Please follow these steps right away so the email does not get lost in the shuffle. PowerPTC will be open for scheduling on Monday, February 19. If your child’s teacher feels that a conference is necessary, he/she will contact you prior to the opening of the scheduling window. If you do not hear from the team, but you would still like a conference, you can schedule one through PowerPTC beginning Monday, February 19. Please note that spaces are limited. If you have any questions or challenges activating or setting up your account, please contact Sarah Nowak.

PTA Valentines Dance Update… Last week, the Welch PTA's Valentine's Dance was cancelled with the closure of District 204 schools after heavy snowfalls. Due to building rental unavailability and scheduling conflicts, the dance cannot be rescheduled. The Valentine's Dance is the largest fundraising social event of the school year, so its cancellation has had a substantial impact on the Welch PTA's budget and community. The dance's budget is currently at a break-even point with ticket pre-sales cancelling out deposits and other dance costs. Many families have already generously offered their pre-sale ticket money to the PTA as a donation to help defray these costs, which is much appreciated. Although the pre-sale tickets were sold as non-refundable, the Welch PTA understands that this weather cancellation is difficult for families who may wish to put that money towards another family event, so the PTA is offering a limited time to request a refund of pre-sale tickets. If you would like to request a refund of your pre-sale tickets, please contact Tonia Brock at firstname.lastname@example.org by February 20th. All refund requests must be received by February 20th and any pre-sale tickets left after that date will gratefully be considered donations to the Welch PTA. If you did not purchase pre-sale tickets but would like to give a donation to the PTA in light of the loss of this large fundraising event, you can send a donation to school anytime in an envelope marked "Welch PTA Donation," with checks made payable to the Welch PTA. Your donation will help the PTA avoid budget cuts and will support PTA events and programs, including the Science Fair, Culture Night, classroom magazines, LMC materials (S.T.E.M. and books), staff appreciation, author visits, and much more for our school and children. Thank you so much to all the volunteers, sponsors, staff, and coordinators who worked so hard to plan this event, and to the families who support the PTA and Welch Elementary! - The Welch PTA
PDAC… The next Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) meeting is on Thursday, February 22nd, 7-9:00 p.m., at Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Drive in Aurora. The topic of the meeting is Understanding and Addressing Abilities Advantages: How do students’ abilities and disabilities advantage and disadvantage them in school? Please visit these links to view the PDAC meeting calendar or to learn more about PDAC.
Engage 204...Did you know District 204 maintains 4 million square feet of building space and more than 650 acres of property? That makes the district's acreage twice the size of Six Flags and its combined building space larger than the Merchandise Mart. Learn about the challenges of maintaining 35 buildings that span 80 years of construction and then give us your feedback at the next Engage 204 session from 7 to 9 pm on February 26 at Still Middle School, 787 Meadowridge Drive, Aurora. The session topic is "The State of Our Facilities." Engage 204 is a collaborative process between the community and District 204. Key to the success of this process is the collaboration and discussion between participants. District residents who attend will have the unique opportunity to share ideas and discuss topics in small groups in order to provide feedback to the Board of Education. Findings and recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education in July 2018. All District 204 residents are invited to participate in Engage 204. RSVP is appreciated, but not required at RSVP. For more information, visit Engage 204.
