Principal's Message 2/24/18

Reported by terri_russell@ipsd.org on 2/24/18

Dear Brooks Families,

An enormous THANK YOU to Tracey Stiles, the Brooks Staff and our students for making Brooks Idol a huge success! The talent demonstrated by our students is extraordinary and I’m so proud of each of them. If you missed it, you can see our students’ talents on display at the upcoming Science Fair on Tuesday, February 27 from 5:30-8:00. This event is held at Granger Middle School!

Must Read:

No School
Please remember there is no student attendance on March 1 and 2. March 1 is Parent Teacher Conference Day from 1:00-8:00 and March 2 is a District Institute Day.

PARCC TESTING - GRADES 3-5
During the months of March and April, our students in grades 3-5 will be participating in PARCC testing. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. PARCC assesses the Illinois Learning— Standards Incorporating the Common Core and will be administered in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Listed below, you will find the Brooks tentative schedule for testing. We respectfully ask you to consider these dates when planning vacations and medical appointments. It’s important your child be in school barring illness. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Grades 4 and 5 - March 5-15
Grade 3 - March 15-23 AND April 2

OPEN HOUSE - Save the Date March 12
Come join us on Monday, March 12 from 6:30-8:00 for Brooks’ Open House. Families will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, talk with teachers and view the amazing work completed by our students.

ANOTHER TRAFFIC REMINDER:
If you pick your child up at the crosswalk and park in the Granger parking lot, please make sure you are in a parking space. Parking along the curb forces students to walk in between cars to get to their vehicles, creating a safety issue. Thank you for looking out for the well being of all our students.

Engage 204
Did you know District 204 maintains 4 million square feet of building space and more than 650 acres of property? That makes the district's acreage twice the size of Six Flags and its combined building space larger than the Merchandise Mart. Learn about the challenges of maintaining 35 buildings that span 80 years of construction and then give us your feedback at the next Engage 204 session from 7 to 9 pm on February 26 at Still Middle School, 787 Meadowridge Drive, Aurora. The session topic is "The State of Our Facilities."

Engage 204 is a collaborative process between the community and District 204. Key to the success of this process is the collaboration and discussion between participants. District residents who attend will have the unique opportunity to share ideas and discuss topics in small groups in order to provide feedback to the Board of Education. Findings and recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education in July 2018. All District 204 residents are invited to participate in Engage 204.

RSVP is appreciated, but not required at RSVP. For more information, visit Engage 204.
