Principal Update March 11, 2018

Reported by lisa_sadler@ipsd.org on 3/11/18

This week, we begin our state mandated PARCC testing for all third, fourth and fifth grade students. In order for the students to do their best, we ask they get a good night sleep, eat a nutritious breakfast and come ready to show all they know. Parents, please know once a test is begun, we cannot interrupt the classroom for early dismissals or late arrivals. Please have the students arrive to school at 8:50am and plan on them staying all day.

Here is what is happening at Brookdale:

ENGAGE 204 ON MARCH 20
The community is invited to attend Engage 204 from 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, March 20 at Still Middle School, 787 Meadowridge Drive, Aurora. This session will focus on the district's budget.
Previous sessions have looked at academic programs, demographics, and facilities. Some of the topics discussed by presenters and attendees have included class sizes, teacher pay, mental health support, facility use, and maintenance projects. At this session, presenters will discuss the cost of some of the ideas and attendees will be asked to prioritize the ideas. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to provide feedback on how to financially support the ideas considering the district's limited resources.
Engage 204 is a collaborative process between the community and District 204. Key to the success of this process is the collaboration and discussion between participants. District residents who attend will have the unique opportunity to share ideas and discuss topics in small groups in order to provide feedback to the Board of Education. Findings and recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education in July 2018. All District 204 residents are invited to participate in Engage 204.
RSVP is appreciated, but not required at RSVP. For more information, visit Engage 204.

TEAM IPEF SIGN-UP
We are looking for a few parents to join Brookdale's Team IPEF. We have SIX staff running this year - we would love to have a few parents as well! Set a great goal, get fit and make a difference for our schools! Team IPEF offers a unique opportunity to run for a cause as a charity partner in the Naperville Half Marathon or 5K on Sunday, October 21, 2018.
Runners commit to raise a minimum of $204 for 204 as they train and complete the half marathon on Sunday, October 22, 2017. All charity runners receive a $20 discount off race registration and get to choose a District 204 school they would like to represent. Visit https://www.ipef204.org/teamipef/ to learn more or check out the video at https://youtu.be/Sb4YYligwcY to see what Team IPEF is all about.

PDAC MEETING, THURSDAY, MARCH 15TH
The Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) is hosting their next meeting on Thursday, March 15th, 7-9:00 p.m., at Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Drive in Aurora. The topic is Understanding and Addressing Language Advantages: How do students’ home languages advantage and disadvantage them in school? Please visit the PDAC meeting calendar or the PDAC subpage to learn more about PDAC.
At last month’s PDAC meeting focused on Understanding and Addressing Abilities Advantages, we learned about the importance of communicating what every student is able to accomplish. Guest speakers and meeting activities provided opportunities to heighten our awareness and understanding surrounding abilities. The meeting presentation slides are now available on the PDAC subpage.

Come on March 13 at 7:00pm at Still Middle School for this presentation by the Indian Prairie Project Arrow PTA. (We encourage you to submit your questions for the panellists to ippa.pta@gmail.com.
