Principal's Message 5/27/18
Reported by email@example.com on 5/27/18
Dear Brooks Families,
As our year winds down, we have many wonderful and exciting activities planned for the week. Please see all the events and reminders. A more comprehensive “year end” letter will be sent separately.
Last week, we celebrated KINDNESS DAY, which was the “brainchild” of 3rd grade student, Sonali Undale. Sonali presented her passionate idea to our support team and me, wanting to recognize and celebrate our differences. Each grade level completed a special activity celebrating each child’s special qualities. We calculated nearly 600 acts of kindness observed in one day! We encourage our students to view everyday as Kindness Day and alway display empathy and caring to others. Thank you Sonali, for facilitating our special day!
Lurie Children’s Hospital
Earlier this year, you might remember our fundraiser for Lurie Children’s Hospital and Cal’s Angels. This hospital and organization have provided for the care and needs of one of our very own students, along with thousands of others battling cancer. Our first fundraiser raised over $1,100. At our recent Fun Fair, our Student Council knew even more money could be collected to support family needs at Lurie Children’s. With their tomato plant and ribbon sale, they collected an additional $600! What an amazing and important lesson to model for our students - giving to others! Brooks students and families are amazing!!
Field Day and 5th Grade Farewell
Thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up to assist us with Field Day on Thursday, May 31. The PTA has graciously offered us popsicles for all our students. Along with our health office review of food allergy/medical needs, we ask you to contact your child’s teacher if your child cannot have a popsicle. Additionally, a separate email was sent to 5th grade families regarding food served for the 5th Grade Farewell.
PS - The temperatures will be monitored for Thursday’s Field Day and modifications will be made if necessary. Please dress your child in clothing conducive to hot temperatures and apply sunscreen before the start of the day. Weren’t we just complaining about cold weather??!!

Remaining Items Pick Up
If your family is starting summer vacation early and your child leaves any items behind, please make arrangements to pick up these possessions no later than Friday, June 8 (ex. Yearbooks which are not distributed until the last week of school, final projects, school supplies, etc.) Any remaining items will be discarded.
One Week Building Closure in June
During the summer, the district will be working on our 4th phase of classroom air conditioning. This phase will require power to be shut off to our building during the week of June 18-22. Therefore, the office staff will be working out of Granger Middle School during that week. We encourage you to handle any school business outside of that week, but if you need to reach us, please email or come to Granger. More information to come.
Bookmobile will be back!
We are excited to announce the Aurora Public Library will return this summer, providing book check out for our students throughout the summer. Because of our wonderful turnout last summer, the Bookmobile has extended its time from 30 to 45 minutes! The Bookmobile will park in the front lot of Brooks School every Tuesday from 1:45-2:30 starting June 5-August 7. The Bookmobile will also offer their summer reading program. Stay tuned for further details, but mark your calendars!!
Chromebook Roll Out - coming in August!
We are proud and excited to announce the district’s continued roll out of one-to-one technology for our students in grades 2-5 for next school year. This year, our 5th grade teachers and students have piloted the use of this tool and have embedded it into our instruction in meaningful and exciting ways. Brooks is providing staff professional development this spring so our teachers/students are ready to hit the ground running in the fall. This initiative will also make our current laptops more available for our students in grades K-1, making it a WIN WIN for all! More information to come!
