This spring, the French students at Waubonsie Valley High School had the opportunity to participate in the National French Contest, Le Grand Concours. The World Language department at WVHS is incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work of the 70 students participated in the contest.

Becca Lowe earned a Gold medal, ranking in the 95th percentile. Kaitlin Skurnak earned a silver medal, Ashley Heidenrich, Toby McGuire, Sonja Shahriar, Sergio Godinez and Daniel Mejia earned bronze medals.

Earning honorable mention: Erin Pachapa, Natalie Budzyn, Aisha Iyengar, Oyin Shiru, Evan Villeneuve, Nicholas Kierstead, Cedric McGuire, Anushree Rayarikar, Montse Cuesto de Prado, Juan-Luis Garcia-Ruiz, Catherine Guan, Jonathan Piceno, Miranda Pikus, Prathik Senthil, Maggy Campos, Sidney Nimako-Boateng, Lily Hong and Joshua Tabb.

AATF President Catherine Danièlou indicated: French students who rank nationally in Le Grand Concours demonstrate a superior level of global responsibility, integrative cultural competence, language skills, and commitment to excellence and dedication. They significantly increase their community’s international profile. Their French teachers, whom they honor, work hard to produce responsible world citizens with multilingual capabilities. Le Grand Concours participants and winners all embrace an appreciation for other cultures, strive to continually learn and improve, and value the study of French. We are very proud of them and admire their commitment to both contributing to a better world and serving as exceptional ambassadors for their schools.
