Field Day...Field Day is almost here!! Due to the number of White Tigers at Welch, FIeld Day will be split in half - the fun will begin on Thursday, May 31st (rain date of Friday, June 1st) for our kindergarteners, first and second graders from 9:30 - 11:30 AM and will continue from 1:30 - 3:30 PM for our third, fourth and fifth grade students. During these times, students will rotate through a variety of different Dr. Seuss themed games and activities. Andy’s Custard has graciously donated vanilla custard for our students to enjoy as they rest and cool down during one of their Field Day stations. Ingredients can be found at: eatandys.com/nutritional-information/. If you don’t wish for your child to partake in the Andy’s custard, please contact Sarah Nowak by Wednesday, May 30th at 9:30 AM. Other Helpful Field Day Tips…

To add to the fun of the day, we invite students to dress in their grade level Good, Better, Best t-shirts or grade level colors, and wear active clothes with proper gym shoes:
K - Green
1 - Purple
2 - Orange
3 - Blue
4 - Red
5 - Yellow

Sunscreen – We will be outside for the two hours of Field Day and lunch, sunscreen can be very important. Please note that a teacher may NOT put sunscreen on your child. Students should come with sunscreen applied.

Water Bottle – Students do have some time for drinks and restroom, but a water bottle can be convenient. Please make sure you put your child’s name on his or her water bottle.
Any questions? Please contact Stephen Horne or Sarah Nowak.

Naperville Library Summer Reading… Last week the Naperville Public Library came to speak to classes about their summer reading program. Attached is additional information compiled by our LMC Director and Reading Improvement teachers regarding summer reading. Links to other programs, how to access Lexia, and book lists are included. Students have made great strides in reading this year. We hope they continue their enjoyment of reading over the summer!

Summer Reading

Thank you… A HUGE thank you to all of the amazing fifth grade families who made the Fifth Grade Farewell on Friday such an amazing day for our students. It was an absolute blast and a day that no one will soon forget! Thank you for all your hard work!

Registration 2018-2019… If you have not yet completed your registration for the 2018-2019 school year, please do so as soon as possible. We are currently staffing and creating classes for next year. Online Registration should be updated in HAC and all forms must be returned to Welch between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Welch’s Main Office at 630.428.7200.

Remaining Items Pick Up… If your family is starting summer vacation early and your child leaves any items behind, please make arrangements to pick up these possessions no later than Thursday, June 14th (ex. Yearbooks which are not distributed until the last week of school, final projects, school supplies, etc.) Any remaining items will be discarded.

One Week Building Closure in July...During the summer, the district will be working on our 4th phase of classroom air conditioning. This phase will require power to be shut off to our building during the week of July 16 - 20. We encourage you to handle any school business outside of that week. More information to come.

Chromebook Roll Out - coming in August… We are proud and excited to announce the district’s continued roll out of one-to-one technology for our students in grades 2-5 for next school year. This year, our 2nd grade teachers and students have piloted the use of this tool and have embedded it into our instruction in meaningful and exciting ways. Welch is providing staff professional development this spring and before the students return in the fall so our teachers/students are ready to hit the ground running in the fall. This initiative will also make our current laptops more available for our students in grades K-1, making it a WIN WIN for all! More information to come!

Moving… If your family is moving and will not be attending Welch in the fall, please complete the attached form and return it to Welch’s Main Office as soon as possible.
