On Monday June 2nd Owen Elementary students are going to spending the entire day participating in the Owlympics. The Owlympics is a chance for the Encore classes to shine. Stations will include Art, Music, LMC, and Physical Education. All stations are related to the upcoming Olympics and should spread excitement for the hopeful upcoming bid for Chicago. Students will participate in Olympic events like equestrian, swimming, rowing, and archery. Students will also be able to create their own gold medals, learn about the history of the Olympics, experience some Chinese culture, and create a banner with the Olympic rings over the Chicago skyline.
The day will begin with an official opening ceremony with Mayor Pradel starting the festivities. There will be a video showing the torch relay and will conclude with the torch lighting by Mr. Owen Wavrinek himself.
This day has taken lots of planning by many people. The day will include every school staff member, over 75 parent volunteers, and lots of help from the PTA.
There is no rain date as their will be a rain plan for Monday put into action if need be.
