Do you have a child with an IEP or a 504 plan? Have you ever wondered if they would simply benefit from additional help or support within the school setting? Are you looking for resources or answers for at-home support? Have you ever wondered if there are other parents who would understand what you are going through or have been through this before? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then the Indian Prairie Special Needs PTA is for you.

District 204 is proud to be the first school district in the state of Illinois to offer a Special Needs PTA. The Indian Prairie Special Needs (IPSN) PTA is a group of parents and caregivers of children with special needs. Our mission is to unify and support parents and caregivers of children with special needs by sharing experiences, learn about legislation, funding, services and community resources that support and strengthen the families of special needs children. We also provide the opportunity to meet with educators and community leaders to increase awareness of the needs of our families.

The Special Needs PTA is growing. The work we do to help parents seek support, guidance, understanding and compassion is at the forefront of what we do. Raising a child with special needs is no easy task. No one can better understand the unique challenges of parenting a child with special needs than other parents of a special needs child. If you have a child with any kind of “different ability”, then this PTA is for you. Our PTA includes parents of children with ADHD, low muscle tone, autism spectrum disorders (from the very low functioning to the very high functioning Asperger’s children), hearing impairment, food allergies, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, dyslexia, as well those with speech and language needs. Our PTA is open to parents, caregivers, teachers, community leaders who have an interest in learning more about the variety of special needs in our district.
