The Rain Forest of the Amazon, the Wetlands of the Florida Everglades, the North American Temperate Forest, the Arctic Tundra, and the great, vast Ocean are alive and well at Fry Elementary! Part of the Indian Prairie School District's 3rd Grade Science curriculum is a unit on habitats. Each 3rd grade classroom at Fry has celebrated their learning of the past few weeks by creating an ecosystem resembling their assigned community. 3rd graders are taking a voyage through each other's classrooms to experience all of the habitats. Looking closely, they might see a spider monkey in search of food, a bald eagle soaring over the marsh, a beluga whale playing in the ocean, an arctic fox taking care of its babies in its den, or a porcupine in search of the perfect twig to munch on in the temperate forest. Students have researched an animal from their habitat and incorporated paragraph writing to compose research papers. Oral presentations are being held in classrooms as students share their work and explain how their animal was made. What a perfect way to end the unit!
