IPPC awards the Dr. Kathryn J. Birkett Scholarship to a senior at Metea Valley, the Dr. Thomas G. Scullen Scholarship to a senior at Neuqua Valley and the Dr. Gail McKinzie Scholarship to a senior at Waubonsie Valley who expects to major in the field of education. In 2020 the Dr. Karen Sullivan Scholarship was created and is also awarded to a senior at each high school who expects to major in education. In addition, a minimum of two other scholarships will be awarded to students at each high school in non-education fields and majors. All scholarships are $500 each.
How and when can a student apply? Seniors apply on a common application available from each high school guidance office in early February. Completed applications are due in March.
Who is eligible? Any current senior enrolled in a District 204 high school is eligible to apply.
Is there a minimum grade point average? No. Any student may apply for an IPPC Scholarship.
What is needed to apply? Four items are required: 1) a completed application, 2) a written 500 word or less statement answering one of four questions in the application, 3) two signed letters of recommendation (one of which must come from a high school certified staff member), and 4) an official, seventh semester transcript.
What are the criteria for selection? The IPPC Scholarship Committee reviews all applications on the basis of the student statement, scholastic ability, leadership, letters of recommendation, and extra-curricular activities and/or work experience.
Is financial need a consideration? No.
When are awards announced? May. Waubonsie Valley winners are announced during the Green & Gold Senior Awards Ceremony. Neuqua Valley winners are announced during the Senior Awards Assembly. Metea Valley winners are announced during the Black & Gold Senior Awards Ceremony
How is the scholarship paid? The scholarship is paid directly to the student following the award announcement and is to be used for educational expenses.
Is the scholarship renewable or deferrable? An IPPC scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable. However, a scholarship may be deferred.
