  • One quarter of health in grades 6, 7 and 8.  Topics at all grade levels include:

      Introduction and study of Health and Wellness, Personal Application, Decision Making, Advocacy, Goal Setting, Safety Precautions

    • Social Health
      Types of Relationships, Communication, Peer Pressure, Bullying, Conflict Resolution, Violence, Abuse and Hate, Dating Violence, Erin’s Law

    • Mental & Emotional Health
      Introduction to Mental and Emotional Health, Emotional, Response, Stress, Anger, Self-Esteem, Body Image, Depression, Suicide, Treatment, Resources for Seeking Help
    • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs
      Drug Classification, Drug Use, Misuse and Abuse, Medicines, Street Drugs, Gateway Drugs, and Resistance Skills

    • Disease
      Communicable Diseases, Pathogens, Immune System, HIV

    • Reproductive Wellness
      Adolescence, Puberty, Reproductive Systems, STI’s and Unwanted Pregnancy, Abstinence, Contraceptives for the prevention of STI and Pregnancy

    • Healthy Eating
      Food Labels, Food Intake Analysis, Non-communicable Disease Prevention

High School

  • Grade 10 Health
    • Nutrition and Non-Communicable Diseases
      Major areas of focus regarding non-communicable disease will be risk factors and lifestyle habits that can contribute to both prevention and treatment.

    • Mental Health
      content related to stress, mental disorders, suicide, grief and the importance of support and resiliency

    • Human Life Cycle
      reproduction, pregnancy and fetal development, pregnancy prevention and reproductive disorders

    • Relationships
      The Relationships unit focuses on understanding the importance of healthy relationships for overall well-being, including both social and personal relationships.

    • Communicable Diseases
      Major areas of focus regarding communicable disease will be identifying risks of disease transmission, the chain of infection, and reducing the risk of transmission.

    • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs
      The Understanding and Avoiding Hazardous Substances unit will include information regarding the biological, social and emotional health impact of alcohol, tobacco, drugs (ATOD) on individuals, family and society.
