A - NON-JOB PROTECTED LEAVES
A.1) Non-Medical Reasons
Attendance and reliability are professional expectations for all school staff, especially when students are in session. While we are not in a position to deny unpaid leave, this type of leave request may not be aligned with the District's expectations for staff availability during student-facing periods. A leave of absence that is not for medical, bereavement, VESSA, or USERRA reasons during key instructional time—particularly when not supported by benefit time—will be taken into account as part of the employee's performance evaluation. (Ref: IPCA Negotiated Agreement, Group I Rules & Regulations, Section A: Absenteeism.)
Attendance Expectations - Excused, Unexcused
If a staff member plans to take leave from their position during the school year for a reason not related to bereavement or medical condition, they must go through the “Excused/Non-Excused” leave request process and email their completed request form to hr@ipsd.org. NOTE: Your sick days cannot be used for these types of requests.
