May A+ Award 2025

06/02/2025

The Indian Prairie Educational Foundation (IPEF) and District 204 proudly honor Erin Balek, a special education teacher at Prairie Children Preschool, with the May A+ Award. You can watch the May A+ Award video to see the team’s visit to recognize Mrs. Balek for “Making a Difference in District 204”.

Mrs. Balek was nominated for the A+ Award by Prairie Children Preschool parent Lesley Braxton. In her essay, she described Mrs. Balek as an exceptional teacher who strongly advocates for the needs of each child that she works with.

Mrs. Braxton stated, “Today, Ari is a completely transformed student. He is social, articulate, confident, and academically advanced. He thrives in his classroom, navigates transitions with ease, and is seen as a leader by both peers and staff.” She went on to say that “His success is due in no small part to the structure, vision, and compassion that Mrs. Balek brings to her work every day. She has created a launchpad of equity, where all children can thrive.”

A+ Award sponsor Western Governors University is partnering with IPEF and District 204 to help recognize one staff member each month for making a difference for students. To celebrate these outstanding staff members, Western Governors University is generously donating $1,000 for each month’s winner to use in his or her school.
