Railroad Crossing Closure - Montgomery & Normantown

In an effort to keep you informed about transportation issues that may impact your child’s ride to and from school, District 204 is sharing information on an upcoming issue that will impact transportation across the district. The Illinois Central/Canadian National (IC/CN) Railway notified the City of Aurora and City of Naperville that they are going to close the railroad crossing on Montgomery Road near Normantown Road from September 25 - 28. Montgomery Road is a heavily used connector street to Rt. 59 and Eola Road, and we are expecting some extensive delays around the Rt. 34 and Frontenac area that will impact many bus routes throughout the district.

Complete road closure will be required for the duration of the project. HighStar Traffic will coordinate detour signs and barricades for the Railway. Advanced road closure signs are currently displayed.

Below is the project schedule.

  • Monday 9/25 – Road closes at 9:00 AM, after morning traffic clears up. Remove asphalt, rubber surface, haul all materials to site.

  • Tuesday 9/26 – Replace track structure.

  • Wednesday 9/27 – Complete track work. Install rubber surface.

  • Thursday 9/28 – Assuming no rain, pave roadway and open roadway in the evening.

Please utilize the D204 MyStop app to see any delays in your students' bus route. Information regarding MyStop can be found here.
