Happy Friday!

I hope you and your family had a wonderful spring break! It was great to see our students back at school this week ready to start the 4th quarter of the school year! The rainy weather this week had us indoors for several days at recess time. We're looking forward to some warmer and dryer weather next week! We're also excited about next Monday's solar eclipse!

As of 4:00 this afternoon, 3rd quarter report cards are live and available for review in ParentVUE.

Have a great weekend!

-Mrs. Kempski

Solar Eclipse Plans

On Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be a significant celestial event occurring - a solar eclipse. This offers a unique educational opportunity for our students and staff to witness and learn about this rare occurrence. IPSD is hosting a district wide watch party for our elementary students!

If you need to pick your child up for any early dismissal that day, please plan to pick them up prior to 1:45 or after 2:20 PM.

To ensure the safety of your child, all students must have parental permission, in order to participate in viewing the eclipse on the afternoon of April 8th. Our school district is providing all students, faculty and staff with ISO- Certified Solar eclipse glasses for the event! As communicated earlier this week, permission slips must be returned in order for students to participate in outdoor viewing. The viewing plans are as follows:

Outdoors: Students with permission to participate in the outdoor viewing will go out to view the eclipse from approximately 1:55-2:10 PM.

Indoors: Students without consent will participate in an indoor virtual viewing of the eclipse via livestream.

Out of an extreme abundance of caution, we will all have indoor recess and PE on Monday April 8 due to solar eclipse. Only students with signed and returned permission slips will be going outside with the district provided glasses during the identified viewing time.

One School One Book

One Book, One School is almost here! Each year the May Watts community comes together to read one book as a school. Our book is chosen, and we are excited to reveal the book to students on Thursday 4/11! Each family will receive a copy of the book to be read together as a family at home (a book will be given to eldest/only children).

Please check your eldest/only child's backpack Thursday after school, as they will receive their copy to start reading that night! A reading schedule will be included with the book. This is such a fun May Watts tradition, and we are incredibly thankful to our May Watts PTA for providing the books to our families and staff.

Please contact Ms. Happy (elizabeth_happy@ipsd.org) with any questions!

A Note from The Watts World Changers Service Club

Hello May Watts Community,

We are excited to share with you all our Watts World Changers Service Club has been busy doing this year, making a difference in our school and community! The students began by making cards for Veterans and collecting candy for Military Service personnel stationed throughout the world. Their second project was making 12 fleece blankets donated to Parkview’s Safe Family Ministry, a non-for-profit organization in Glen Ellyn, IL that provides warmth and comfort to those in need. Finally, the students donated their time to read to classrooms on World Read Aloud Day as well as helped our busy teachers with classroom bulletin boards and other projects around the school. We are very proud of your children and our students. They are hard workers with enthusiastic attitudes determined to make a positive impact in their sphere of influence!

We would like to thank everyone who donated candy and fleece for our first two projects. We are reaching out to the May Watts Community for another donation. The Watts World Changers will be creating Birthday Bags to donate to local food pantries.

For the Birthday Bags we are asking for the following items:

Cake mixes

Frosting

Disposable cake pans

Candles

Balloons

Stickers

Generic Birthday Cards

Party plates/Napkins

Large Gift Bags to fit all of the items

When we return from Spring Break, there will be a donation box in the main office lobby labeled “Service Club Birthday Bag Donations”. Please drop-off items no later than Friday, April 12th. Watts World Changers will be assembling the Birthday Bags at our April 17th meeting. Thank you for your support!

Appreciatively,

Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Donaldson
