English Language Arts

  • Mission Statement: The MVHS English Language Arts department shares in LIFE’s journey as invested cultural participants by inspiring individual thought, constructive communication, and empowered action. We are radically student centered.

    Core Pillars:

    Reading

Our students are readers.  They are able to independently deconstruct complex texts while thinking critically about perspectives that mirror and rival their own world views.  They are able to evaluate authors’ ideas and purposes demonstrating deep analysis and are critical consumers of audio, visual, and electronic texts.

    Writing

Our students are writers. They know that writing is a recursive process; they practice purposeful authorial choices to express their unique voice and to engage with the world.

    Communicating

Our students are communicators.  They understand and implement appropriate communication techniques (verbal, nonverbal, interpersonal, digital) to best function as a productive member in a variety of platforms.

    Citizenship

Our students are engaged cultural participants.  They connect literature to life by sharing their voices, listening to the voices of others, and taking deliberate action to enrich their local and global communities.
