Due to the e-learning day on February 17, the Volunteer of the Month award presentation was postponed to March 17, 2022.
Bridget McKernan has volunteered extensively at May Watts Elementary for the past several years. Because of her unwavering commitment to our students and schools, she has been named the BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month for February 2022.
Bridget has three children, a third grader at May Watts Elementary, a seventh grader at Hill Middle School, and a senior at Metea Valley High School. She is fortunate to be a stay-at-home parent which has given her the opportunity to donate her time to support the wonderful experiences that May Watts and District 204 offer to students and families. Bridget has been involved in the District 204 Boundary Committee, the Indian Prairie Parents Council winter coat and snack drives, hosted a pop-up shop for Metea Valley Boosters, held many different positions on the PTA Executive Board, coordinated a variety of fundraisers, volunteered as a room parent and worked in the LMC, co-chaired the Fifth Grade Farewell and annual Veterans Day events, instituted a teacher grant process at May Watts and Hill, and she even found time to work as a lunchroom supervisor.
Principal Brian LeCrone stated, “Bridget McKernan is a volunteer in the truest sense of the word. She has devoted countless hours of her time across several different roles to make the school experience better for all May Watts students. Bridget has served on the PTA Executive Board and has been the May Watts representative on the Indian Prairie Parent Council for years. She has been instrumental in developing a valuable Veteran’s Day program for our students and even stepped in last spring as a recess supervisor to ensure that we had enough supervision so that students could go outside for recess. Her dedication to the school community is truly appreciated!”
Bridget volunteers because she feels it is important to give back to her community in any way she is able. She says, “When we are personally invested in our neighbors, we can create a nurtured village with many successes.”
