Dear Brooks Families,

We are so excited to welcome back all of our students for the 2022-2023 school year. We look forward to bringing the Brooks and Young community together into one school community that focuses on families and social and academic growth for our students. As we start the year, here is some important information that may help you with your planning:

New Family Self Guided Tour - August 10 from 2:00-3:00

We welcome all our new families and kindergarten families to our optional “Self Guided Tour” on Wednesday, August 10 from 2:00-3:00. Please note; you do not need to schedule in advance. Our building will be open for you to view classrooms, specials’ classrooms, the lunchroom, the LMC, etc. An official tour will not be provided, but we welcome you to get our glimpse of our beautiful school! (Please note - classrooms are still “under construction” regarding set up and decorating).

Class Placement – Parents will be able to access classroom assignments on Friday, August 12, after 4:00, using ParentVue. This is the same system you used to register your child.

Teacher Meet and Greet:

We are delighted to inform you we will be hosting a Teacher Meet and Greet on Monday, August 15 from 2:00-3:00. Teacher Meet and Greet is a wonderful opportunity to briefly meet your child’s teacher, other students in the class, and drop off supplies, if you choose. (Please note - Kindergarten families are encouraged to bring supplies to the Kindergarten Orientation instead) PTA will also be providing a cool summer treat on the blacktop in the back of the building. What a great way to reconnect with our community!

Due to increased enrollment, we kindly ask you to follow the schedule below, to the best of your ability. You are scheduled based on the first letter of your last name:

Last Name A-M

Last Name N-Z

Important First Day Information:

Thursday, August 18 First day of school for students in grades 1-5

Kindergarten visitation – see information below

** Important Save the Date: Kindergarten students will not ride the bus to school on Thursday, August 18. Instead, we invite you to bring your child to kindergarten on the first day for an orientation specific to our Kindergarten students. This visit will familiarize your child with his/her new classroom, let him/her meet the teacher and will prepare all of our students for their first full day of kindergarten on Friday, August 19. In order to make this a special day for you and your kindergartner, we respectfully request no siblings attend.

In order to reduce the number of families in our Kindergarten rooms at one time, we are utilizing final class rosters to assign specific orientation times. Therefore, your specific orientation time will not be known until after August 12 when class rosters are published. You will receive a specific correspondence from the classroom teacher with your assigned orientation time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Parent Night Save the Date - Wednesday, August 24, 6:00 p.m.

Brooks Parent Night is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher, learn more about your child’s day, and gather information about what your student is learning. This evening is structured for parents only and children should not attend. Line up your child care now! More specific information, along with the schedule, will be coming soon.

Bus Routes – On August 12 or after, you may access your child’s stop information in ParentVue. Go to the Student Information tab, then scroll down to transportation.

Please note: Route change requests should be addressed to the school office. In conjunction with the district transportation department, a decision will be made based on safety. Route changes will not occur for convenience or having your child “in view”. After school begins, route changes will not be made until after the third week of school unless there is a safety concern.

PD Wednesdays: School will start at 9:15 with doors opening for student arrival at 9:00. AM bus routes will remain the same, with pick up approximately 10 minutes later. Dismissal time remains the same and buses run their regular routes.

Communication between home and school is critical. All office correspondence will occur through email, phone calls and the school web-site. In order to receive school emails and phone calls, it’s crucial for you to update your ParentVue account with current information; phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

School Lunch Program: District 204’s hot lunch vendor is Organic Life. Over the past 2 years, the United States Department of Agriculture was given grant money to provide free breakfast and lunch for ALL students. Those waivers have expired and the district will return to pre pandemic operations. Students choosing breakfast or lunch through Organic Life will be required to have money in their account. Breakfast/Lunch information along with the application for free/reduced lunches can be found at:
