Volunteer of the Month: April
Deb Gronowski has been volunteering in District 204 for the past 21 years. Because of her dedication to the STEPS Program and Special Olympics, she is being named the BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month.
Deb has a daughter who graduated from Neuqua Valley in 2011, a son in the STEPS program and a son who is a junior at Neuqua Valley. She has been a volunteer in District 204 for the past 21 years. As a founding member of the STEPS PTSA, Deb is the Membership Secretary and Special Olympics Coordinator. She also helps coordinate fundraisers, teacher appreciation week and snacks for parent-teacher conferences. Deb has received the Special Olympics Illinois Class A volunteer certification allowing her to assist the Special Olympics coaches in any role that is needed. She is also currently an active volunteer at Neuqua Valley High School and has previously served in many volunteer roles as her children grew from elementary to high school.
Volunteering with the STEPS Program and Special Olympics holds a special place in Deb's heart. She says the unconditional appreciation and excitement from the students far outweighs any support that she can give. Anytime she can help take the load off of a teacher or coach or add a smile to a student's face is worth every minute spent.
One of her nominations states "STEPS PTSA and STEPS Special Olympics team wouldn't be the same without Deb's enthusiasm and dedication. She always has a smile on her face and is one of those people that everyone wants to be around. Deb is making a difference for the STEPS program each and every day!"
