Volunteer of the Month: November

Reported by on 11/21/19

Michele Wright is a known at Gombert Elementary School not just as a familiar face but as someone who helps students and teachers alike. Because of her continued service as a LMC volunteer, she is being named the BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month.

Michele is retired after working for 17 years in the district as a LMC assistant and now volunteers at Gombert Elementary. She comes in each Tuesday to volunteer in the LMC. During this time she checks in and shelves books, completes projects and helps students. Using her previous LMC experience, she also processes books, runs reports, completes inventory and has been a wonderful sounding board for new ideas. At book fairs, Michele can be found running the register and helping families select books for their students. When Gombert students received new Chromebooks, Michele spent two days preparing the Chromebooks for distribution to students the first week of school.

Michele's nomination states "She truly models servant leadership and has become such a fixture within our staff. The students know her and greet her just as warmly as any other staff member. They feel comfortable asking her for book recommendations or discussing the latest award books with her." The staff at Gombert says that many days Michele leaves with an armful of books to read just so she can stay up to date with children's literature.
